This morning we wrote journal entries, worked on root words, and started new 3-point paragraphs. We are reading aloud Seven Alone, a journey of children on the Oregon Trail. Mrs. Kirsch read The Great Brain with the class. BE SURE TO READ FOR 30 MINUTES EACH NIGHT FROM A BOOK OF YOUR CHOICE. THERE WILL BE A BOOK REPORT DUE SOON.
MATH HOMEWORK IS EXERCISE 4. The last problem is particularly tricky. We learned to "slide" edges of composite shapes to complete rectangles. We used yarn to do this. On the last problem, students must remember to include the parts of the perimeter that don't slide. IN ADDITION TO HOMEWORK, STUDENTS SHOULD COMPLETE 1-2 LESSONS ON XTRAMATH.COM DAILY.
Today we had Writer's Workshop and students worked diligently completing how-to papers, 3-point paragraphs, and stories. Some students typed, others wrote, while yet others planned. STUDENTS SHOULD BE WRITING AT HOME. THEY CAN LOG ON TO OUR CLASS DRIVE AT drive.google.com under 45arches13. They know the password.
In History we used photos as a primary resource to see how covered wagons and handcarts are different. We also compared the numbers used in migration. Students rolled the dice and posted work done. I am impressed with how well captains are using the 7 Habits in their leading.
After music and P.E. we took a pre-test of the 11 body systems and learned the function of the Respiratory System. We learned about the trachea and capacity of our lungs. Balloons were blown up to represent the capacity of air our lungs inhale.
