REMEMBER LOGO DAY ON MONDAY.

ALSO, FALL BREAK STARTS NEXT THURSDAY: OCT. 10-14TH.  SCHOOL WILL RESUME TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15TH.

This morning we had our Language Arts test, covering grammar, spelling, handwriting, and reading.  Students had time in Writer's Workshop.  Some are writing personal stories, others fiction adventures, and so on.  We learned what inferring is (what is the author really trying to say? why did he/she put that in?  why did he/she want us to read it?  is there a lesson to be learned?  We read about the Spartan 300 who fought in the battle at Thermopolae against Xerxes.  The themes that came out about inference were Freedom, Betrayal, and the worth of a life.  HOMEWORK IS READING 30 MINUTES.

In math we had our Cum. Test #1.  I collected math books to review and give a grade for Unit 1.  THE ONLY HOMEWORK IS TO WORK ON MULTIPLICATION TABLES DAILY.  There are many online games.  Please utilize them.  Here are a couple:

For Integrated Studies today we wrote a list of projects and homework we are working on.  The list is below:

Dinosaur Project based on the multiple intelligences.  Students have decided on math smart, picture smart, music smart, word smart, self smart, people smart, body smart, or nature smart.  Their projects are due Tuesday, October 15th, to be presented for Grandparent's Day.

Dinosaur Page of dinosaur information.  The pages will be compiled into a class book.  They are due Wednesday, October 9th.  Students are creating one page each of dinosaur information.  Some are doing comics, others writing a newspaper page, others fun pages, etc.

Dinosaur National Monument story.  These stories are fictional IF the child did not attend the field trip. If the child DID go camping, he or she writes a story of a specific incident that happened on the trip as if the audience can hear his or her thoughts.  These should be at least one page long and typed.  Font should be no larger than 16.

Mini-courses were great.  In mine, students learned about lift, weight, drag and thrust.  We experimented making various kinds of airplanes and studied some laws of aerodynamics.
