*Children will take Essays/Pictures home to complete (“I say No to Drugs”) to bring back on Thursday.
K-3 will probably only stay from 8:30-9:00/15, depending on how they're doing.
4-8 will stay longer. Math as normal.
This morning we reviewed cursive "O" and cut out new spelling sorts to work with. We will be using the Morse Code to practice our words this week. We then reviewed nature nouns and adjectives, chose our own Native American name, and decorated half of a Bull-roarer with the name. Tomorrow we will do the other half.
After a brief assembly introducing Red Ribbon Week, we predicted what SotM would be about and divided into groups with Mrs. Kirsch to begin reading. Mostly we got to page 4. CHAPTER ONE IS DUE BY WEDNESDAY. PARENTS CAN READ TO OR WITH THEIR CHILD, OR THE CHILD CAN READ IT BY HIMSELF. Whatever you do, don't read ahead!
Math was hands on division with mini M&Ms. STUDENTS TOOK HOME A WORKSHEET WITH 8 DIVISION EQUATIONS TO SOLVE. Students must be methodical and show their work. When we have done the long way and understand the concept, I will be able to show fun shortcuts.
During our afternoon time together students were divided into tribes of threes and all participated in a class simulation of why the Indian Reservations were formed. Tribes have various opportunities to earn "feathers".
The meeting tonight at the Smart Building was very well attended. If you are interested in seeing the building, there will be another tour Wednesday evening.
