This morning we listened while a new student author shared his book! We then did a book-a-thon, reading in 3 different books for 3 minutes each, to see if we could find a different genre that would interest us. Several kids found new books.
In grammar we reviewed the preposition jingle, moved our superheros in time and space, and classified sentences with many prepositional phrases. We sorted spelling again. TOMORROW IS A SPELLING TEST.
Students met in groups to solidify plans for book club presentations next Tuesday. We then worked on Writer's Workshop. Very impressive was a book by seven boys in the class...it will be published shortly.
HOMEWORK IS READING 30 MINUTES AND FINISHING OUR DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT WRITTEN WORK. For this, students allow the reader into their thoughts when they are at their favorite spot on the fieldtrip. The length is one page.
MATH HOMEWORK IS EXERCISE 3. We learned how to draw comparison models and part whole models. Students also learned a neat trick for subtracting zeros:
1000 - 367 = (1000-1) -367 + 1 = 999 - 367 (which can easily be done in your head) + 1 = 633
During art and history we worked on our DNM mural in tempera paints. We worked hard and should have the bulletin board up pronto!
