This morning we organized desks and began with a number teaser. It went like this:
3 4 7 1 1 1 8 2 9 ?
The answer was 4. Can you get it?
We worked on cursive A. We also did our spelling sort using shaving cream as our activity. Mrs. Kirsch joined us for Writer's Workshop, where students took one of their ideas and brainstormed bullet lists to help them organize stories later. HOMEWORK IS TO READ FOR 30 MINUTES.
In math we reviewed Place Value subtraction and worked like crazy on Place Value addition. THERE IS A HOMEWORK SHEET THAT IS DUE TOMORROW. Below is an example:
3T4 + 6T3 = 9T7 =97 or 5T2 + 5T3 = 10T5 = 1H5 = 105
or 4H8T9 + 3H3T1 = 7H11T1T = 8H1T1T = 8H2T = 820
We are working the problems like this so students can eventually add 489 + 331 mentally. We have to slow down now, so we can speed up later.
After lunch, students went to Drama and Music. They next had Student Development, which covers a number of subjects (7 Habits, 8 Multiple Intelligences, Parts of Health, Body Systems, Type III Projects, etc.) We divided an outlined body into four parts and talked about the physical, mental, social-emotional, and spiritual parts of us that make us whole. We broke each area down to parts and then discussed how each contributed to the well-being of the whole.
Students then had P.E. and Science.
